2017-2018 Season

April 2017

Dear Devils Parents and Players,
April has arrived and finally we are seeing the sun!  I wanted to thank all of our Devils families for YOUR CONTINUED support of the Devils Hockey program.  This season was a pivotal one for the Devils with the opening of a new rink and a place to finally call our “home”.   Your patience over the years and supporting us even though we had you traveling all over the state, proved to only bring us closer as we all worked together to make the situations work.  I am happy to say that thanks to Devils Dad, Dave Boucher and his wife Kim, the New England Sports Village has helped us to be able to begin the creation of an even more stable and more improved program for you in the 17-18 season!  We have a lot to look forward to!  Close to home practices, consistent schedules, new partnership relations with Athletic Performance Training, DAJ Skillz and GDS Goalies, and the ability to now focus on new and creative ideas to make our program even better!  We thank you for your LOYALTY to the DEVILS program.  Without it we would not be able to provide you a program.  This program belongs to those who continue to want it to exist.  It belongs to those who believe that it is not necessary to spend thousand more dollars and travel thousands more miles for your child to enjoy the benefits of being on a team.   What is the goal of the DEVILS to teach your child?
RESPECT – for coaches, teammates, opponents and parents
TEAMWORK – Working together as a team can create success – work together, communicate with and rely on others to attain goals
SUPPORT - Support teammates through the highs and the lows.  Encourage efforts, hard work and commitment of each other.
LOYALTY – Players, parents, coaches and Board members develop bonds of trust and reliability, working together to improve ourselves and those with whom we share common goals.
PRIDE – Pride in success, pride in comradery, pride in being a team and supporting each other, pride in being part of something you believe in, proud of being part of something bigger than just one.
SELF DISCIPLINE – players are learning self- discipline without even realizing it.  They learn that to be successful they should come to games and practices punctual and prepared, to listen to a coach to improve themselves, to set aside time for homework to be able to attend their practices, to follow rules and guidelines such as lining up on the boards, waiting for a shift to contribute, to respect calls made by referees, to take turns with teammates.  While time off the ice can be relaxing and fun is had in the locker room with teammates, the time on the ice is for disciplined efforts to continue to improve their skating and hockey ability.
COMMITMENT – Commitment to a personal or common goal can prove successful.   Players learn to listen to coaches, trust coaches trust teammates, work together and reach success… that success may not be a winning record but may just mean that a team created many lasting friendships and enjoyed a year of growth both personal and as a team.
PERSPECTIVE – As much as we love hockey and we love what we do, a child’s or family’s world is not ALL hockey.  There is extended family, there are other siblings’ sports, there are other family obligations and passions, and there are other family events.   Keeping our hockey family close, while understanding and valuing the outside obligations of our families is important.
FAMILY – I often see grandparents, aunts, uncles and family friends coming to support our players.  How important this is to a child to know that they are loved and supported by so many.    And I see these families embraced by the other families on the team.  The siblings become great friends.  As these players grow and continue to play in their respective high schools, you will see the bonds grow.   You will see the stand full of supportive fans… TOGETHER supporting the players as a team.
ADVERSITY AND DIVERSITY – Part of life.  Your child learns that although their teammates may not be their best friend off of the ice that on the ice they are a TEAM.  Players of all personalities, maturity levels and skill levels are brought together in to a program run by volunteers.  Volunteers on the board and coaching staff who believe in your children and who are willing to dedicate their time and knowledge to teach your children all of the above.  They do not volunteer for the paycheck.  They do not volunteer for the gift received at the end of the season.  They volunteer because they believe in youth sports and community.  Many of them believe because they realize as adults how much they benefited from similar programs and efforts when they were growing and realize the very strong impact it had on their growth into the adults they are today.
There are many, many hockey programs out there where your child can go to play.   You can pay more money, you can travel many more miles, you can keep striving to compete against others.  The goal is a very personal decision for parents and families.   But to those who believe in the simple exposure and growth for their children in the above aspects while they continue to grow in other areas of their world too, we hope you will work with us to keep the DEVILS program alive and healthy!   This is why we do what we do.  If there a not a need for this we would not be here but we believe there is.  We can offer what elite programs cannot – simplicity, confidence, pride, accepting that your children will not always be the best of the best but they don’t need to be,  They will learning so much more than hockey – they will be learning the more important values of life.

OTHER INFO!
NORTH DEVILS COACH’S AWARD
At our recent End of Year Banquet, our Devils co-VP, Vinny Zammiello was awarded the President’s Award. Our other Co Vice President, Paul Brooks commended Vinny’s commitment to the Devils over the past 12 years.  Vinny’s oldest son was a member of our first ever Mite Team, who is now graduating with his teammates as a senior in the 2016 High School class.
Vinny has donated many, many hours of time coaching at all levels.  He brought our Pee Wee Team to the State Championship to win the Championship title in 2014.  Our first ever team to earn this title.  His youngest, Mia is now playing at our Mite level!
His dedication and commitment cannot be measured.  This honor could not be awarded to a more deserving person.  Congratulations Vinny and thank you for everything you have done to bring the Devils Program to the successful level it is today.

THANK YOU’S
I’d like to finish by thanking our Board Members, Coaches and Team Admins for all of their time and dedication to this program.  We could not be where we are today without your help.  No one knows more than I, the amount of time and effort that they have contributed… from practice plans to email reminders, from organizing team parties to constantly being a Devils “advocate”, they are THE BEST and we are all so very lucky to have them.   Their enthusiasm and commitment to what we do is what makes this Devils program exist…  THANK YOU TO YOU ALL.

One last note – all players should have received a call from their 17-18 team coach.  If for some reason you have not yet received a phone call, please let me know.  I will follow up for you.
That about wraps it up for now!  I hope to see you al SOON at the rinks – (think summer hockey!)

As always, please feel free to call me or email me ANY TIME!
I’d be more than happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.
