I'd like to take a moment to remind you that evaluations will be held Mid March and to provide a link that outlines the evaluation process. Devils Hockey Evaluations

Please take some time to review this link in its entirety and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. There is a lot of information to digest, so the following is a list of some key points:
  • It's extremely important that returning players attend an evaluation or the player will be placed on the lowest level team to start with the opportunity to move up (roster space and skill set permitting).
  • The number of evaluation sessions per level will vary.
  • VERY IMPORTANT - Attending multiple sessions (i.e. Call Backs) does not guarantee placement on any one team and should not be viewed as "making a cut" or "advancing to the next level."There are various reasons why a player could be called back.
  • The Devils Hockey Board appoints 3-5 impartial selectors or independent evaluators, but will also have a representative on-site to answer questions and ensure fairness.
  • 3-5 Devils coaches and assistants will be on ice running the drills and scrimmage sessions.
  • Following the initial evaluation, players will be grouped into one of the following designations:
    • < >On the Bubble
    • Entry/Lower Level Team
      • Note – “Locks” are not notified of their status until all evaluations are completed.
  • Any of the 3 designations could be invited to attend a call back, but typically only "locks" and "on the bubble" players will attend call backs.
  • A player must contact the Devils President to request absence from evaluations.
  • Once a player is placed, any concerns regarding the selection process and/or a player's placement should be brought to the Association President, Patti McTernan.

As with games and practices, we expect all skaters and parents to behave appropriately on or off the ice during the evaluations. Foul language, illegal checking, harassment of other skaters and approaching the evaluators at any time will not be tolerated.

Thank you again for your attention and willingness to review this important part of the Devils program. We believe that our evaluation process is fair and credible and we hope this link helps our entire hockey family better understand how a player is assessed.

Go Devils!

Patti McTernan
President - Devils Hockey
