#7 Zach McGowan celebrates as North takes a 3-1 lead over the Shamrocks
North dominates play but unable to get their first win.
The Rocketeers took to the ice Saturday evening in Foxboro and took on a familiar foe, The Bishop Feehan Shamrocks. The Rocketeers coming off a strong outing against a quality Mansfield team were looking for their first win of the season. It looked as if they were going to get that win until a untimely and questionable penalty and a defensive zone turn over gave the Shamrocks the opportunities they needed to even the score and they did just that. Both teams netted four goals apiece and it was obvious that the Rocketeers felt like they let their first win slip away. The Shamrocks had to be satisfied with the point they earned.
From the opening face-off the Rocketeers dominated the tempo and pace of the game. North held the offensive zone time advantage and shot advantage throughout. Paul Baker put North on the board a minute and a half into the game with a hard wrister that had eyes as it found the back of the net. The lead lasted only a few minutes before Feehan evened it up at one. North however got the go-ahead goal when Conner Ford dished a sweet pass into the slot and onto the stick of a hard charging Hunter Sarro who made no mistakes slipping it under Mike Capprinis’ pads. The period would end 2-1 North.
Early in the second period North extended their lead to 3-1 when Andrew Casson and Zach McGowan capitalized on an odd man rush. Casson raced down the right side and ripped one off Capprinis’ pads and McGowan banged home the rebound. North was controlling the pace of the game and took advantage of a Shamrock penalty late in the period when Erik Clements buried one from the left face-off circle. It was a power play goal and put North up by two as the period ended.
In the opening minutes of the third period Feehan worked the puck down low and beat Warren glove side cutting Norths’ lead to one. Although Feehan was skating hard North still mounted several scoring chances late but were unable to add to their lead. It was after a late and questionable penalty for interference Feehan scored the tying goal at 4:30 of the period. Both teams earned a point.
North will travel to the Cape and take on Sandwich and Nauset on December 26 and 27th.
